Position Description

Professor McCombie is seeking highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellows in Statistical Genomics and Human Genetics for his group at the Stanley Institute of Cognitive Genomics, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. The Stanley Institute of Cognitive Genomics is a multidisciplinary organization using genomics, computational biology and clinical knowledge to understand the genetic and pathogenesis of complex mental diseases. In particular, Professor McCombie’s group is applying the latest high through put exome and genome sequencing technologies, to identify rare nucleotide and structural variation underlying bipolar disorder, major depression and schizophrenia. The applicant will be expected to integrate with others at the Stanley Institute and analyze family and population based genomic data of neurological and psychiatric diseases.

Position Requirements

Applicants with a PhD in Statistical Genomics, Quantitative Genetics, Biostatistics, Genetic Epidemiology, Statistical Molecular Genetics or a related field with a focus on genetics are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates with doctoral degrees in Physics, Statistics and Computer Science with a strong interest in human genetics are also welcome. Interested applicants with a Masters Degree in the fields described above and 3 years’ experience in the statistical analysis of genetic data will also be considered.

The accepted applicant should have strong written and communication skills, and be proficient in
R, MatLab or other statistical programming tools.
Familiarity with UNIX
Computer Programming Languages
QTL Theory
Experimental Design
Experience with Family or large population data sets
